The funeral is held at Mission Church, rather than the Cathedral of the Holy Cross, because Kennedy was a divorced Catholic. President Barack Obama and former president Jimmy Carter and George W. Bush are among those attending. A few days earlier, Kennedy’s wake had been attended by thousands of mourners at the JFK library in Dorchester.
